Building

Mat 7:24 niv

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.

Joh 2:19

Then the Jews demanded of him, "What miraculous sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?" Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days." The Jews replied, "It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?" But the temple he had spoken of was his body.

Sometimes, we are just exhausted and feel like there is not much we could our interlocutor to offer as a matter of an argument. I can imagine Jesus felf like this after chasing traders out of the Temple. As a man he must have felf physically and emotionally drained like somebody who has just chased away thieves out of his own house with his own strength and at the end he is asked by onlookers blatant question by what authority you are doing all this! Well he might just have replied: It's my address, I live here!

But Jesus gives another answer. Paraphrasing he said: Destroy me and I will rebuild myself within 3 days. He is obviously talking about his crucifixion and resurrection. He is alluding the same way to his own teaching from the gospel of Mathew 7:24. However, he is going further. Whereas in 'Mathew' the house was tremendously hit by elements it withstood the impact. In Jesus case the house was totally destroyed by the sin and was wonderfully rebuild from scratch to a new glorious form. (1Co 15:43 )

Flood: a remedy for corruption?

Another approach to understanding God's motive behind the flood lies in comparison to the surgical operation. If for instance all our body is taken by gangrene and only one cell or piece of tissue is still healthy and it is still possible to rebuild the whole body based on this one piece of biological material(this example corresponds really to a modern-day genetic engineering). Then the professional(God in our example) decide to kill the rotten body in order to recreate it through the one remaining healthy cell. In this case his action is reasonable and even merciful: he loves his creation- he wants to rebuild it!
